Temecula: A Country Setting with City Sights
A private residential enclave among the succulent vineyards in Southern California Wine Country, Europa Vineyard Estates is only minutes from Temecula, a historic town rich in a variety of modern amenities. With a thriving arts and theatre district, a historic downtown, upscale lifestyle centers, and a variety of residential communities, Temecula has evolved into one of Southern California’s most popular cities for both tourists looking for adventure and families looking for a high quality lifestyle. Just 15 miles by air from the Pacific Ocean, the region enjoys a temperate climate and steady breezes, and boasts some of the finest air quality in all of Southern California.

In recognition of the many positive attributes of this vibrant city, in 2006 Money Magazine named Temecula as one of the Top 100 Best Places to live in the United States. Europa is the perfect complement to this popular city, and will quickly take its place as being one of the most desirable communities in the nation.

History

A Legacy of Bountiful Living
Temecula Valley was home to the Luiseño Indians for over 1,000 years. The Indians named the region Temecula which loosely translated means “where the sun shines through the mist” because of the cool mist that often drifts into the Valley from the nearby Pacific Ocean through a notch in the mountains known as the Rainbow Gap. Over the past three decades, the once sleepy Temecula Valley has evolved into an active and upscale Southern California community of over 250,000 residents.

The land on which Europa will be created is rich with Southern California Wine Country history. The community will be built on a site that was formerly part of the historic Callaway Vineyards. Planted in the 1970s by Ely Callaway, this vineyard produced many award-winning wines. It was actually a hallmark vintage that put the Southern California Wine Country on the map . In the 1980s, President Ronald Reagan experienced this vintage when he was passing through the area. His appreciation of a Chardonnay crafted from his homeland, prompted him to order a steady supply for the White House. One of his guests at a state dinner was so impressed she ordered the wine to be sent to her home as well. Her home was Buckingham Palace and the accolades were from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. The story drew national and international attention for the small winery in Temecula and the wine world became aware that Southern California wines had arrived.

So Cal Wines Have Arrived
Temecula Valley is California’s only prominent American Viticultural Area south of Los Angeles. The region’s location, soil conditions and terrain provides a unique combination perfect for growing wine grapes. As the warm air rises from the desert floor each day, it meets the cool marine air flowing through the Rainbow Gap in the western hills to create cool mornings and cool evenings which bookend intense mid-day sunshine. The result is a climate similar to Napa Valley, France and the Mediterranean with perfect conditions for cultivation of premium grapes to create wines with fresh, distinctive varietal flavors and superb structure.

Over twenty award-winning wineries flourish in Temecula Valley, offering their delicious, locally made, award-winning wines. In addition to producing excellent Chardonnay, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, Temecula wineries are known for Mediterranean varietals such as Viognier, Syrah and Pinot Gris. The remarkable success of these wines has resulted in numerous awards at domestic and international wines competitions and recognition for Temecula as a world-class wine growing region. Recently, South Coast Winery Resort & Spa was awarded the 2008 Golden Bear Award for the Best Winery in California at the California State Fair, one of the industries most highly-regarded wine competitions.
